Storm and discoveries

The lily pads are out.  They grow where the water is shallow, so in some places it appears they are in the middle of the river. Soon they will be blooming.

Got a shot of one of the barges that go up and down the river.

On Tuesday we got to drive Doc and Bud, a beautiful set of Belgian horses.                                                                                                 And Doc and Dan too.

Sister Andersen and Sister Chipesvu did the narrations for us.

We had some very full rides, so to accommodate all the visitors we had a double shotgun on the driving seat with the teamster.

My lovely hollyhocks are blooming at home this summer.  Thanks Stacy for the pics.

On Wednesday we had a very strong storm come through Nauvoo.  Lots of trees were uprooted and branches broken off.  Our yard looks like a war zone.

Friday was Oxen ride day.  The temps got up high, so we had to quit by 2:30.  Sister Hunt and Sister Sweaney were our helpers.

We had some time to take some photos as you can see.

Saturday I worked at the Heber C. Kimball home.  Heidi Wayment's Mom stopped in to say hi.  As I did the tours today, telling about Heber being the first foreign missionary, serving in Great Britain in 1837, and baptizing over 1,300, I got to thinking about our ancestors from there. So today I started looking up when the first ancestors joined the church and where.  Well I discovered that James and Ellen Bennett were baptized in 1837 in the Ribble River by Heber C. Kimball.  Wow!

  1. I'm glad you were safe from the storm. I thought of you as I taught the primary kids some pioneer songs in Primary yesterday.

Dreaming of spring days coming...

It is the slow season.  Feb. 26, the wind blew, so working on the wagon was brisk.  I am bundled up with two coats, hat, scarf and more. ...
