Blooms, friends & lillies

The Cultural Hall is one of the nicest buildings here in Nauvoo.
On Wed. and Thurs. Claudia and Diane (Judkins) were in town.  We had a nice time visiting with them and watched the British and Nauvoo Pageants with them.  Love sharing the spirit here.
On Friday we drove the wagon and worked with these sweet sisters.

Randy & Dixie Bird stopped by to say hi.  Visiting from Adam-on-diam.
We performed at Sunset and took some cast pictures.  The Jensens are going home.  We will miss them.

On Sat. worked at Pioneer Pastimes.

Setting Sun

On Sunday we got out to enjoy some of the nature around.  The American Lotus are in full bloom.
Behind the Lyon Drug building there is a lovely herb garden.
An Arbor with gourds growing, hanging down.  So interesting.

Storm and discoveries

The lily pads are out.  They grow where the water is shallow, so in some places it appears they are in the middle of the river. Soon they will be blooming.

Got a shot of one of the barges that go up and down the river.

On Tuesday we got to drive Doc and Bud, a beautiful set of Belgian horses.                                                                                                 And Doc and Dan too.

Sister Andersen and Sister Chipesvu did the narrations for us.

We had some very full rides, so to accommodate all the visitors we had a double shotgun on the driving seat with the teamster.

My lovely hollyhocks are blooming at home this summer.  Thanks Stacy for the pics.

On Wednesday we had a very strong storm come through Nauvoo.  Lots of trees were uprooted and branches broken off.  Our yard looks like a war zone.

Friday was Oxen ride day.  The temps got up high, so we had to quit by 2:30.  Sister Hunt and Sister Sweaney were our helpers.

We had some time to take some photos as you can see.

Saturday I worked at the Heber C. Kimball home.  Heidi Wayment's Mom stopped in to say hi.  As I did the tours today, telling about Heber being the first foreign missionary, serving in Great Britain in 1837, and baptizing over 1,300, I got to thinking about our ancestors from there. So today I started looking up when the first ancestors joined the church and where.  Well I discovered that James and Ellen Bennett were baptized in 1837 in the Ribble River by Heber C. Kimball.  Wow!

A full week with Clayburns

Ok, this week will be a picture overload, but it tells the story and I couldn't leave many out.
The Clayburns arrived on Sunday evening in time for the Trail of Hope.

Mississippi River

Monday we start with Oxen ride.  Look at all these drivers, ready to cross the plains.

And then off to the Blacksmith shop to learn how they made wagons and wagon wheels.
George Riser Boot and Shoe Shop.  Kristana was here today to welcome us and tell their story.
We had to stop by the Bakery to learn about Lucius Scovil and get a cookie.
Then the family spent some time in the Family Living Center, while Grandpa and Grandma worked.

The girls made a stop by to visit with Lucy Mack Smith at her home.

                                                                   Browning Gun
                                                                  Brigham Young
On Tuesday, Grandma and Grandpa gave a special ride on the wagon.

                                                        Spent some time finding geodes.
Pioneer Pastimes is loads of fun.

On Wednesday we made it to the temple.  The girls did baptisms the day before.
We made a trip over to Carthage.

                                                                     Cultural Hall
On Thursday, the crew met up with Grandpa for a Carriage Ride in the country.

Grandpa showing off after Sunset on the Mississippi.
                                                                       Lyon Drug
                                                                     Herb garden
That evening we went to the Country Fair and then watched the Nauvoo Pageant.

Farewell to Nauvoo for now.  They want to come back again.  We sure hope they will.

Dreaming of spring days coming...

It is the slow season.  Feb. 26, the wind blew, so working on the wagon was brisk.  I am bundled up with two coats, hat, scarf and more. ...
